There are three distinct stars in the system we call Alpha Centauri. Two of these stars, Alpha Centauri A & B, are similar to our sun; while the other, Proxima Centauri, is a small red dwarf. Beyond the intrigue of multiple stars, perhaps the most enticing aspect of the Alpha Centauri system is the fact that at least one of the stars may support terrestrial (Earth-like) planets.
