The temperature extremes prevent the formation of solid ice sheets like those in the Arctic and Antarctica. However, the winter months produce constant polar storms and strange seas of churning, icy slush. This chilly froth refuses to freeze solid and congeal-posing a major hazard to any vehicles that try to cross the surface. The fact that the slush goes nearly to the bottom of the Alphan ocean would make it hard for any submarines as well!
